The climax of the biblical story is therefore not merely a city of extraordinary beauty, but God dwelling with His people.

This is one of the clearest conclusions in the entire investigation. The twelve tribes that began with Jacob and the Twelve apostles chosen by Jesus are both permanently named in the architecture of the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:14At this stage we do not need to argue that the two twelves are connected. Revelation places them in the same city and assigns each group a permanent place in its structure.
The investigation that began with Jacob's sons in Genesis has arrived at the gates and foundations of New Jerusalem. The question now becomes: what does this complete biblical trail reveal about the continuity of God's purposes from Genesis to Revelation?
The numerical pattern is remarkable, but Revelation 21 itself directs our attention toward something even greater. The city represents the fulfillment of God's promise to dwell with His people.
There is no temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city has no need of the sun or moon to shine in it, because the glory of God illuminates it and the Lamb is its light.
This keeps the Mystery of Twelve in its proper perspective. The number is worth investigating, but the ultimate focus of Scripture is not a number. It is God, His redemptive purpose, His people and the Lamb.
Knowledge begins with seeing what is written. Understanding grows as we search the Scriptures. Wisdom comes from God.
